Make the Most Out of Your Email Signature

It's your e-business card.

A Signature file, also know as a sig.file, is a short memo which ends an email. It is your e-business card. Sig.files are readily accepted online and, when used properly, comply with "netiquette."

You can create Your Email Signature within your email program.

  • In Outlook, you select Tools, Options, Mail Format.
  • In Outlook Express, you select Tools, Options, Signatures.
  • In America Online, click on Mail Center, Set up Signature.

By default, you can have a signature added to each of your outgoing email messages.

Here are some "Do's & Don'ts" for creating a Signature file:

Do's:

  • Your signature should include your basic contact information: name, company name, phone & cell phone numbers, Web site URL, and email address. You can include an appropriate and professional tag line.
  • Keep it short - no more than 4 to 8 lines, with no more than 65 characters per line. This will assure that your sig. file will be viewed as intended no matter what email reader is being used.
  • Provide a link that takes them directly to your Web site. Remember to include your URL (not just "click here") because sometimes people will print email to save or read later. They cannot click on a piece of paper and get to your Web site.
  • You should provide every possible way for recipients to reach you - the customer is king and it is their choice if they would rather call than email you.
  • You should create multiple signature files to use with different groups of recipients.

Don'ts

  • Don't make them too flashy or include lots of symbols or large images. It will make an impression, but probably not the one you want to make.
  • Your sig.file should not be a blatant hard-sell advertisement. The online community does not appreciate this and may even be offended.
  • Don't wait another day to create your Signature file - it can be very effective way to draw traffic to your Web site!

Express Your Inner - Picasso!

There is an artist hidden in everyone. This Web site is a great way to relax, vent stress or just provide an alternative to Free Cell or Spider Solitare.

You can print out or email your creations. I sent one to my Mom, but I noticed she didn't hang it on the refrigerator like she used to when I was a kid...

New Website - The Winery at Marjim Manor

This W.O.W. (Woman Operated Winery) is owned by Margo Sue Bittner. Located in Appleton, New York and part of the Niagara Wine Trail, The Winery at Marjim Manor features wines made from fruit grown in local orchards.

The historic mansion has a unique appearance and history. It features a wraparound enclosed porch that has been carefully restored to its former glory, a stone fireplace in the Tasting Room and cast iron decorations above the doors. There is plenty to see. The house even has resident ghosts. Visit the Winery for the whole story!

Here is what Margo has to say:

"Websites are key to business today. The Website Annette designed for me gives people the feeling of actually being in the winery. The elegance of the building, the variety of offerings and the necessary information are all woven together. Customer response has only been positive. Comments range from 'WOW!' to 'I can find everything I want' to 'Can't wait to see it in person.' So, a Toast to Websites."
