Short News Clips

Here are a few short news clips from recent e- marketer's daily newsletters that show how the Internet is becoming an integral part of our daily life. I found them interesting and I hope you do too.

Domain Registration Hits All-Time High According to VeriSign, the master database and registrar for all .com and .net domain addresses, online domain name registration hit a record high of 64.5 million in the second quarter of 2004. That is a 7% increase over the end of 2003. It is a sign of renewed interest and activity in the Internet, because the registration rate has not attained these levels since the late 1990s, in the pre-dot-com bubble days.

Loyal newspaper readers in the US are increasingly turning to the Internet for news, shopping research and information. A study by Yahoo! found that the relationship between print and online for newspaper loyalists is something online retailers and marketers will want to note. Over one- half of newspaper loyalists say they go online to research a product mentioned in a newspaper circular. In fact, over 50% say they have been conducting shopping research online and buying offline for the past three years.

Workers Are Working on Personal Time You have seen the surveys that show workers are doing personal tasks online on company time and company computers. Here's another side of the story. A new survey by T-Mobile and Harris Interactive, shows that (60%) of all employed, US adults with online access spend up to an hour every day answering work-related e-mails and phone calls, usually before or after work, or during lunch. "That is the equivalent of 15.2 additional days of work each year," says Peter Walsh, author of How to Organize (Just About) Everything. "That's three full work weeks of extra time on the job."

Domain Registry of America - Scam or Fair Advertising?

A company called The Domain Registry of America has been emailing people with deceptive messages about domain transfers. The goal of the e-mail is to trick you into transferring their domain names to them. The e- mail falsely claims to be a response to a transfer request.

I am familiar with this company through the years because they have sent misleading "snail mail" letters and I see now that they have branched out into email. This company really ticks me off. If this is the way they try to get your business, imagine what they will do to keep your business.

What should you do about this? Delete the email message and/or throw the letters away.

When it concerns something as important as your domain name, please read carefully anything that is mailed or emailed to you. Never respond to requests for information without checking with the person who administers your Web site.

If you have questions or concerns about your domain name renewal or registration, please call or email me and I would be glad to help.

Gallery of Regrettable Food

It's food, its funny and it's a retro look at poorly photographed foodstuffs and horrid recipes from the '40s, '50s, and '60s.

Check out the site and be thankful on this Thanksgiving Day that food preparation has come such a long way in the last 50 years.

Customer Spotlight: Shutterworks, Inc.

One of the things I enjoy about what I do is helping other business owners grow their businesses. When I first met Todd Firkins of Shutterworks, Inc. - which customizes fine quality hardwood shutters - he was a one man show. A little over a year later, he has two employees and a state-of-the-art woodworking and finishing facility.

Read what Todd has to say:

"Running a business requires making a lot of difficult decisions. But when it came to deciding on a Web site, Annette not only made that decision easy, she made it enjoyable. She took the time and interest to research and understand our business. We were so pleased with Annette's talent that we decided to have her add more to our Web site.

Annette did an absolutely beautiful job and I would recommend her to anyone considering a Web site for their business."
